I developed a physical collection of artifacts and papers pertaining to the history of the school mascot Herky the Hawk, including Dick Spencer III’s illustrations of the mascot. I researched and surveyed pertinent holdings, selected content, created text, designed, and installed the exhibit at the University of Iowa Main Library.

During my work in Community and Access Services, I check in and shelve library material, and I page materials requested by patrons. I create displays based on the community’s needs and have weekly shifts on the help desk. I regularly volunteer for community support projects, such as working a library card booth at the public school open house, or participating in the homecoming parade. I curated the exhibition “Keepers of the Collection” for the Ellen Buchanan Children Room in the fall of 2017, to highlight personal collections of librarians.
Project on Rhetoric of Inquiry (POROI), Iowa City, IA.

As the graduate assistant of the Project on Rhetoric of Inquiry (POROI) online journal, I act as the technical manager working to inclusively format the articles prior to publication, and act as a liaison between the editor, the authors, and the readers. I work with editing the HTML of previous issues, managing the journal’s Twitter account, and maintaining the listerv using MailChimp. I also created the Graduate Student Handbook for future technical editors and wrote a grant proposal to redesign our website.

On Hack Library School, I write monthly articles and contribute to weekly blog posts about my professional and personal experiences as a graduate student, in order to help other students navigate their own programs. I also edit and give feedback on other articles written for the blog. Digital Preservation Lead

In conjunction with the Iowa Digital Library and the collections department of the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, I scanned glass plate slides of scientific expeditions ranging from the 1890’s to the 1930’s. I worked with metadata regarding the slides on FileMakerPro, and I researched the history of the expeditions. I trained a team of volunteers on digitization techniques.

I managed digital schedules for 20 employees and led the front desk staff. I placed orders from vendors, managed our online store on our Squarespace website, and conducted weekly inventory. I acted as the primary resource for clients, helping them identify their service needs. I designed our wedding packages and created a luxury brochure with information about our hair and makeup services, and policies regarding weddings at Buzz.
